SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Problem ► Students would really like to use the technology at school but the technology isn’t good enough.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Proposal ► Get newer better equipment at our school.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Rationale ► Having access to up-to-date computers will help us more efficiently complete our schoolwork. ► Having access to up-to-date computers will help us more efficiently prepare ourselves for college and the workforce. ► Having the same access to technology as other schools is important so that we can be competitive in the workforce and not fall behind other students. ► Having equipment that doesn't work takes precious time away from learning activities. There is already not enough time during school to finish all that we want to do. ► Having advanced equipment offers students the opportunity to learn advanced skills and to express their creativity in new ways.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Research: Supporting Data We surveyed students at our school to learn their opinions about keeping the computer lab open after-school or on weekends. About our survey: ► We set up a table outside the cafeteria for 5 days in a row. ► Our survey included 100 ninth and tenth graders. ► The survey had 10 multiple-choice questions.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Research: Supporting Data (continued) Our research showed that students would be very interested updating the technology at our school and would be willing to commit to taking good care of the equipment ► 78% said they feel medium or very strongly about improvements to technology ► 48% said they would be willing to pay a yearly tech fee of $10-25 to help pay for the upgrades ► The students ranked the following improvements in order starting with most needed: [Add your own slide!]

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Obstacles We are aware that there are several obstacles. The #1 obstacle is funding. We are collecting information about grants for computers in schools. We also are starting a letter-writing campaign to companies such as Dell, HP, and Apple to see what support they can offer.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Proposal Details Our proposal includes the following details. We would like to work further with you to develop a plan for our school. We would like to work with the school site council and the district board to try to implement the top three technology upgrades voted on by students and teachers. (See Next Steps.)

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Next Steps 1. Find out if the school board will make a contribution from the budget for technology improvements. If students donate $10-25 annually, will the school board match it? 2. Conduct a poll of teachers that matches the student poll to find out how teachers rank the options for tech upgrades. 3. Publish a prioritized list of technology wants and needs and an attempt at cost estimates. 4. Work with site council to see if our first choices can be purchased.

SAMPLE PRESENTATION May be reproduced for student use. © NetDay Student Voices Resource Center Support We have shared our proposal with the following groups and have their support. ► PTA ► Student Council ► Mrs. Smith - School Technology Coordinator (Mrs. Smith has offered to help us support the development of this plan.) ► Mr. James, Miss Garcia, Ms. Wong (math, science, and English department heads)
