 Intro  The Pro’s of video games  The Controversy  Video game violence  The solution  Summation  Works cited

 To some, video games are considered a nuisance, an impeding road block on the road to technological advancement.

 Games such as COD “…may help enhance your brainpower, vision, and focus.” (1)

 Enhance social skills  Help build or strengthen teamwork skills  Help relieve stress

 “On April 20, 1999, two seniors walked into their Colorado high school carrying assault rifles, and they opened fire. They shot dozens of people, killing 12 students and one teacher, and the nation was floored. School shootings had happened before, but this was a new scope of carnage, and in the ensuing search for answers it came out the shooters had spent a lot of time playing violent video games”(2)

“ A body of research suggests that violent video games cause short term and/or long term increases in aggression and violent behavior, whereas a substantial set of research studies indicate that violent video games do not cause increases in aggressiveness or may be associated with changes in certain individuals under specific circumstances. However, media stories of school shootings and related violence over the years have reported violent video game involvement when known and have often attributed this activity to violent events. “ (3)

 “More than any other media, these video games encourage active participation in violence," (4)

 “A decade-long study of over 11,000 children in the UK has found no association between playing video games from as young as five, and mood or behavioral problems in later life.” (6)

 “No study has ever shown that violent video games result directly in actual violence, let alone mass shootings. That doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, though the numbers suggest it’s very unlikely.” (6) This article in Forbes is well put. It’s not biased and focuses its attention on hard evidence and research. Within the article it says “In fact, numerous studies have been conducted and the results are mixed. Some studies have shown that video games increase aggression; others show the opposite.” however, the overall verdict is supportive of mine.

 Monitor your children  Spend some time with them  If necessary, help point out what's right and wrong.  Never blame them  Always seek advice from a professional if your child is acting ‘suspicious’

 Take responsibility!  Stop blaming others for your faults!  Learn from your mistakes!
