Reading letter Ra with light or broad sound We need to know when to read the letter Ra with light/thin or broad/heavy sound. In order to determine this, we need to look at the harakah of the letter Ra. If the letter Ra is sakin (it has no harakah), we look at the harakah of the previous letter

When to read the letter Ra with thin voice? The letter Ra has zayr below it: رِ e.g. رِزْقٌ رِسَلَةَ رِضْوانٌ The letter Ra is sakin, but the letter before it has zayr: e.g. شِرْكٌ لَشِرْذِمَةٌ مِرْفَقًا The letter Ra is sakin, the letter before it is also sakin, the second last letter has zayr: e.g. حِجْر The letter Ra is sakin and before it is letter Ya ى: e.g. خَبير خَيْر The letter Ra mushaddad has zayr or paysh on it e.g. حُرِّمَ ذُرِّيَّةٌ

The letter Ra has zabar or paysh on it: رَ e.g. رَبِّى رَجَع رَزَقَكم The letter Ra is sakin, but the letter before it has zabar or paysh : e.g. اَرْسَلَ مَرْحَبا تُرْجَعُوْن The letter Ra is sakin, the letter before it is also sakin, the second last letter (other than Ya ى ) has zabar or paysh : e.g. وَالعَصْرِ خُسْرِ كَالْقَصْرِ صُفْرٌ The letter Ra is sakin and one of these seven letters come after it: خ ص ض ط ظ غ ق e.g. قِرْطاس اِرْصاد The letter Ra mushaddad has zabar or paysh on it: e.g. مَرَّ قُرَّةَ ذَرَّةٍ
