Lewis & Clark’s Expedition was started at St. Louis, Missouri on May 21, 1804 They left with 33 other men They were sent President Jefferson to explore the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase The goal was to reach the Pacific Ocean(about 2,120 miles)
To find a water route linking the Columbia and Missouri Rivers To link the Pacific Ocean to Mississippi River System To give access to western land To find new species of plants and animals
