Presentation transcript:

Add It Up! Today’s Goal: To learn how to read a standard water meter and a McCreary County Water District water bill. To understand the cost involved in water usage.

Add It Up! A water utility is a business. It costs money to treat water and deliver it to consumers.

Add It Up! A water meter helps to make sure that every customer is treated fairly. It measures consumption.

Add It Up! Consumption is the using up of goods, services, or resources.

Add It Up! McCreary County Water District reads your water meter every month and sends you a bill.

Add It Up! Every customer pays a minimum water service bill$15.55

Add It Up! The minimum water service bill ($15.55) allows you to use any amount of water up to 2,000 gallons. 0 Gallons 500 Gallons 1,000 Gallons 1,500 Gallons 2,000 Gallons

Add It Up! Every 1,000 gallons you use, above the first 2,000, costs you $5.75.

Add It Up! What would your water bill be if you used 5,000 gallons of water? First 2,000 Gallons = $15.55 Over 2,000 Gallons = $5.75 per 1,000 Gallons (3 x $5.75) Total Bill = $32.80 Now It’s Your Turn!
