1.As part of our becoming a Christian- Lk. 13:3 2.Once a Christian, we must repent of our sins and confess to attain forgiveness– Acts 8:22

Repentance Is Not Easy Because It Requires Radical Change – (Eze. 18:20-32) Something We Must Do - (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30) Something God wants us to do - (2 Peter 3:9) We Need To Understand The Nature of True Repentance - I tell you, but unless you repent you will all likewise perish Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance

Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words Repent Part Of Speech: Verb; Strong's Number: Original Word: μετανο ω Usage Notes: lit., "to perceive afterwards" (meta, "after," implying "change," noe ō, "to perceive;" nous, "the mind, the seat of moral reflection"), in contrast to pronoe ō, "to perceive beforehand," hence signifies "to change one's mind or purpose," always, in the NT, involving a change for the better, an amendment,....

Recognition – (i.e. Acknowledgement of Sin) Remorse - (Regret & Grieving Over Sin) Resolve – (i.e. A Change of Mind) Reformation – (i.e. A Change of Lifestyle) Restitution – (i.e. Make Amends As Far As Possible)

The first step TO Repentance – Luke 15:17- 18; Ps 51:2-4; Acts 2:37-38 How can you repent of sin that you refuse to acknowledge? But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Not repentance in and of itself – But is necessary TO repent Not repentance in and of itself – But is necessary TO repent Does not ALWAYS lead to repentance Does not ALWAYS lead to repentance 2 Cor. 7: Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Not repentance in and of itself – But is necessary TO repent Not repentance in and of itself – But is necessary TO repent Does not ALWAYS lead to repentance Does not ALWAYS lead to repentance Matt. 27:3-5 3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" 5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.

The resolve to change ones mind & will is at the very heart of repentance – Prov 28:13; 1 Pet 4:2 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God

The resolve to change ones mind & will is at the very heart of repentance – Prov 28:13; 1 Pet 4:2 Be humble, pray, seek, & turn (2 Chr. 7:14) Get yourself a new heart (Ez. 18:31) Be transformed by renewing your mind (Rom. 12:2)

Don McClain Lk. 15: But when he came to himself, he said, I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, And he arose and came to his father.

Don McClain Ezekiel 18: "But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live.

Don McClain Ezekiel 18: Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness which he committed, and does what is lawful and right, he preserves himself alive. 28 Because he considers and turns away from all the transgressions which he committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Fruits Worthy of Repentance – Matt 3:7-9 Zacchaeus – Luke 19:8 The Philippian Jailor – Acts 16:33 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.

Fruits Worthy of Repentance – Mat 3:7-9 Zacchaeus – Luke 19:8 The Philippian Jailor – Acts 16:33 A Thief? A Liar? A Slanderer? An Unscriptural Marriage? A Murderer?

Repentance Is Not Easy Because It Requires Radical Change – (Eze. 18:20-32) Something We Must Do - (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30) Something God wants us to do - (2 Peter 3:9) Understanding The Nature of True Repentance -

Don McClain Recognition – (i.e. Acknowledgement of Sin) Remorse - (Regret & Grieving Over Sin) Resolve – (i.e. A Change of Mind) Reformation – (i.e. A Change of Lifestyle) Restitution – (i.e. Make Amends As Far As Possible)
