Case Study

Causes of Water Pollution

Impact of Water Pollution Suggested that water pollution is the leading worldwide cause of deaths and diseases (e.g. Hepatitis from eating poisoned seafood, typhoid, cholera, etc.) Less people with access to safe drinking water (nearly people ) Kills life inhabiting water-based ecosystems (e.g. fish, dolphins, etc.) Disrupts natural food chains (e.g. tiny animals consume pollutants, such as lead and cadmium, and when they are eaten by predators such as fish and shellfish, the food chain is disrupted at all the higher levels)

Responses to Water Pollution Enforce laws to control the amount of pollutants emitted by industries (e.g. NEA) Public Education/Awareness Programs (e.g. campaigns and talks) Upgraded Infrastructure (e.g. Building water sewage plants to treat wastes before releasing into water bodies) Proper wastes disposal methods (e.g. landfills & incineration, so wastes are less likely to be dumped into the sea)
