Rise Of The King Hello and welcome to ITV NEWS live. The time is 10 o’clock and the headlines are, The Turkish Prime Minister visited Basra today and was greeted hostilely. The legend Dr Martin Luther King jr was assassinated in Memphis today The Killer has not been caught. The recent outbreak of HIV in London has scared the world but doctors say its not to be to scaring other parts of the country. And how your turkey this Christmas could burn the inside of your oven.

How He Died The American black civil rights leader, Dr Martin Luther King, has been assassinated. Dr King was shot dead in the southern US city of Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a march of sanitation workers protesting against low wages and poor working conditions He was shot in the neck as he stood on a hotel balcony and died in hospital soon afterwards.

So Who Is Martin Luther King! He was the most famous leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He believed passionately in equality for Black people and devoted his life to the cause. He took a central role in Civil Rights Action eg. The Bus Boycott. Under his leadership a great deal was achieved. His Non-violent approach won over more blacks and even some whites to the cause….gave the movement credibility& respectability. His inspirational speeches inspired blacks to fight on. He made Civil Rights an international issue…. getting global attention for the cause which put pressure on the US government to do something. MLK became an iconic figure for blacks and other oppressed people all over the world. We hope that after his death his work continues to inspire blacks to fight for their rights.

What We Think I think that he was unfairly assassinated when all he set out to do was make life better for the segregated black community in the south.
