MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. BY: JESSICA COLONESE

BUS BOYCOTT Martin Luther King Jr. started the bus boycott on December 1, 1955 Allowed blacks to sit where ever, whenever on the bus

CIVIL RIGHTS RALLY IN WASHINGTON Martin Luther King Jr. walked in the Civil Rights Rally in Washington At the rally King said “Let Freedom Ring” Even before the March of Washington King would use the phrase “I Have a Dream” but at the March is where the phrase stuck with thousands of people

AT A YOUNG AGE Even at a young age King was good a public speaking He won first place in a speaker’s contest When Martin was a kid the white bus drivers told the black kids they need to sit in the back of the bus. Martin did not like this he thought it was unfair

“ SIT-IN” MOVEMENT This movement started because black students were being segregated at lunch counters in city stores. Martin Luther King Jr. thought that was wrong. Black students shouldn’t be segregated at a lunch counter because of the color of their skin

OTHER REASONS Even though he was arrested Martin Luther King Jr. still got the message across that segregation needed to be stopped. He also helped with organizations such as; SNCC. CORE, and NAACP
