The Mountain The Routes Hilary and Norgay Mallory and Irvine
Mount Chomolungma, its official name. The world's highest mountain above sea level at ft. (8848 meters). It is located in the Himalayas on the Nepal & China (Tibet) border. (The sun is shining on the South Col, on the right of the photo, about ½ way up the picture.)
There are two main routes up Everest. 1. Southeast ridge, it begins with a trek to Base Camp at 5,380 m (17,600 ft) on the south side of Everest in Nepal. 2. Northeast ridge, which approaches Everest’s North Face, the northeast ridge route begins from the north side of Everest in Tibet.
Lost on Everest in 1924 and found in 1999 which further deepened the mystery whether they made it to the summit. Mallory was found, but Irvine remains lost on Everest. The search for the camera continues.
● The summit can be reached without using oxygen, although it’s rare. Over 200 climbers have perished on the mountain. It has been summated over 4700 times by more than 2700 people. It still provides a challenge to all who attempt it.
