What is Jehoshaphat Doing in the House of Ahab?

Who has received a love of the truth? 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12, “because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”

Old Testament Applications Romans 15:4 1 Corinthians 10:6,11 Hebrews 11:39-40 “God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.”

2 Chronicles 17:1-6, 10-13 God blessed good king Jehoshaphat with a standing army of over one million soldiers!

2 Chronicles 18:1 With all that God had done for Jehoshaphat , yet he felt he needed to make an alliance by marriage with the House of Ahab!

Let us consider what happened: 2 Chronicles 18:1, “by marriage he allied himself with Ahab.” 2 Chronicles 18:2-4, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.” “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

Behold the foolishness of Jehoshaphat 2 Chronicles 18:2-4, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.” “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

Let us consider what happened: 2 Chronicles 18:5-12, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?” “Let not the king say such things!”

Let us consider what happened: 2 Chronicles 18:13-17, “Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Why is Jehoshaphat still sitting there listening to this?

Let us consider what happened next: 2 Chronicles 18:18-24, “Zedekiah…went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said ‘which way did the spirit of the Lord go from me to speak to you?” (And there sits Jehoshaphat watching all this evil taking place, but what does he say? Why didn’t he speak up? )

What in the world did Jehoshaphat do? He did the right things in the sight of God, and was loved by God, but he sought out and made alliances with the enemies of the Lord!

Let us consider what happened next: 2 Chronicles 18:28-34, “I will disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes.”

“Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord?” 2 Chronicles 19:1 “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord?”

“Therefore the wrath of the LORD [is] upon you.” 2 Chronicles 19:2 “Therefore the wrath of the LORD [is] upon you.”

What did Jehoshaphat do? His practice of fellowship was his undoing, and disaster for his family! This is true today for many Christians. Why do Christians seek to make alliances with the devil. Why are they maintaining fellowship with those who teach and practice error?

Is this what we are doing today? Maintaining a Fellowship With the World? 1 Corinthians 15:33; James 4:4 Maintaining Fellowship with an unfaithful Christian or a church that maintains fellowship with such a one? 1 Corinthians 5:9-13; 2 John 9-11 (Whom does “whoever” include?)

Who are you in fellowship with today? Maintaining a Fellowship with those that have been, or should be scripturally marked? Romans 16:17-18; Philippians 3:18- 19? Are you in fellowship with the Enemies of the Cross?

Philippians 3:18-19 Enemies of the Cross Are you in fellowship with the Enemies of the Cross? Are you practicing (Friendship Fellowship) Have you accepted an “Open Fellowship” practice, or even upholding the hands of those Christians who do?

Please consider a line from a poem written by a human poet: “they enslave their children’s children who make compromise with sin.” Hensley, “The Present Crisis”

2 Chronicles 21:4-6 Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat “And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for he had the daughter of Ahab as a wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.”

2 Chronicles 21:18-20, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat “He reigned in Jerusalem eight years and, to no ones sorrow, he departed”
