BUCKS COUNTY READING OLYMPICS Dear Fifth and Sixth Grade Parents: October 1, 2011 Your child has shown an interest in participating in the Bucks County Reading Olympics. The Olympics are a celebration of reading! Students will share responsibility for reading 45 books from a selected list, and then compete as a team against other schools in Bucks County. Each team will answer questions about the books using a game show format. Last year over 3,600 students participated. The elementary event will start at 6 PM on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Council Rock High School South. Transportation to and from the competition will be your responsibility. Students will be required to read at least 10 books from the list by January 1 st 2012 to register for the Reading Olympics. A student must continue to read books from the list in order to answer questions on the night of the competition. We would like each team member to read as many of the books on the list as possible. The books will be supplied by our school library or can be purchased at the book fair the week of November 28 th to December 2 nd There will be meetings in the library at 8:30am before school beginning in January All meeting dates will be posted on the library website. We are excited about this activity, and we look forward to a positive experience with lots of good reading from our students. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please verify your permission for your child to participate by signing and returning the sheet below. Sincerely, Jennifer Ventresca Librarian, MMW _______________________________has my permission to participate in the Reading Olympics for the school year. _________________________ will attend the Reading Olympics competition on March 29, 2012 and all scheduled Reading Olympic meetings, as we realize this is a serious commitment. __________________________________________ Signature of parent or guardian
