Gov Day One Attributes of effective citizens

Since you were in elementary school, you have been required to take classes to ensure that when you graduate, you are able to read and write. Why?

Why is government a required course? Jot down your three best answers

Remember: Democracy depends on “We, the people” Why is it important for citizen participation? What are the benefits of having an informed citizenry?

What are the expectations/ responsibities of every citizen? Who do you know or have learned about that fits this description of an effective citizen? OMG: You have just created a profile of effective citizenship based on your personal knowledge and experiences!

Brainstorm in small groups: What knowledge do you want effective citizens to have? What skills do you want effective citizens to have? What attitudes do you want effective citizens to have? What actions do you want effective citizens to have?

Select the three most important. Be ready to share why you think those are the most important.
