B-29 This is the story of a local hero and why the model is marked as V Square 50
Doran Lewis, who lives in Ogden, flew 33 missions over Japan in B-29’s. Most of the flights were in a B -29 known as “Umbriago” and marked as “V Square 50”. Some of his story can be found in a publication titled “Saints at War”.

So – they went back and got another fresh B-29, marked it “V Square 50”, painted the nose art on it and it was good to go. This was the second of three that were so marked. The third survived the war and was returned to the United States where it was eventually scraped.
