1 Per W Nieuwejaar RV databases and harmonization of inputs to them ISOM 2004
2 Background All of us are required to give inputs to two RV-related and interconnected databases: - Oceanic (US) - EurOcean (EUR) The dB managers do a tremendous job in order to get data from us, and it is therefore important that the task layed upon us is perceived as fairly simple and straightforward. If not, we simply will not make the effort! (Also called human nature)
3 Inputs R/V specifications dB Current format for RV specification data input is not very ”user friendly”. - Maybe it is too many details? - Does anybody need all the data in the DB for each RV or is ”all kinds of data” listed in order to satisfy ”everyone”? - Difficult and cumbersome to fill in the datasheets Douglas White proposal for new datasheets can be found on This is a much better format, but should be ”massaged” a little bit more before it is put into service

6 Inputs cruise plan dB Basically two options: 1) Use a common format 2) Make links from the OCEANIC/EurOcean web sites to responsible RV operator web site Alternative 1 is desirable, but alternative 2 may be more realistic Everyone should in any case post their cruise programs on the web in English in addition to local dialect!
7 Inputs ROV/AUV dB EurOcean have a web-portal with links to webpages describing different ROV/AUVs OCEANIC has currently no listing of ROV/AUVs, but is included in proposed new format under ”Submergence”.
8 Way ahead It would be very beneficial to everyone if the two main web sites for RV information: OCEANIC (Global) and EurOcean (Europe) were harmonized regarding input/output dataformats etc in order to simplify the management and use of the two websites
9 Way ahead cont’d ISOM, ERVO and RVOC members could have a look at the proposed US format and comment on it to Douglas White by e.g 1 February 2005 OCEANIC and EurOcean to implement the new format by e.g 1 July 2005 Status and plans for the two websites to be an agenda item on the future RVOC, ERVO and ISOM meetings in order to harmonize user inputs
