DISNEY & RED BALLOON K1 to K4

Structure 7 Plannings a year. 1 story per planning (Mix of Red Balloon and Disney stories), divided in approximately 4 parts, focusing on specific vocabulary/grammar structures. Vocabulary/grammar practice: Pictures/props, language practice, language practice games, handouts, games, posters, videos, computer activities, art activities, projects, dialogues, songs and chants.

Red Balloon Story The story divided in approximately 4 parts. The teacher TELLS the story using pictures and props to convey meaning. In these plannings, handouts/pictures/props are be based on the story characters and plot. The vocabulary/grammar structures are worked through RB songs and chants, too.

Disney Story The story divided in approximately 4 parts. The teacher READS the story and uses the pictures in the book to convey meaning. In these plannings the vocabulary/grammar structures are worked through Disney songs.

Disney Material used during the whole year Videos, computer activities and posters would be used during the whole year.

DISNEY & RED BALLOON J and UpJ

J Structure 7 Plannings. It is the first stage at Red Balloon to adopt a course book. Students at this stage are 7 years old. The main aim in J is to help students recognize the letters and sounds of the English alphabet. Spelling is one of the most important elements in J, is worked consistently. In J classes, students write words such as apple, queen, zebra as well as simple sentences, for example, I am 7 years old; I like pizza. Vocabulary/grammar practice: Course book flashcards, language practice, language practice games, handouts, games, posters, videos, computer activities, art activities, projects, dialogues, songs and chants.

UpJ Structure 7 Plannings. UPJ is a remedial stage at Red Balloon for students facing difficulties in the Portuguese literacy process or students who are 8 years old. Spelling is still one of the most important elements in UpJ, is also worked consistently. In UpJ classes, students write more complex words and sentences such as behind, mouth, roller-skate, I can play soccer; I’m learning English; I have blond hair and a small nose. Vocabulary/grammar practice: Course book flashcards, language practice, language practice games, handouts, games, posters, videos, computer activities, art activities, projects, dialogues, songs and chants.

Disney Books At least 2 books for J and 2 books for UpJ - 1 reader per semester. The teacher READS the story and students read the key words with her. Teacher also work with spelling and phonics. The vocabulary/grammar structures are closely related to the course book structures. Disney songs are used to consolidate the reading moments.

Disney Material used during the whole year Videos, computer activities and posters would be used during the whole year.
