Todays’ Appetizer: Pig on a Paper Pig on a Paper

On a blank sheet of paper draw a pig. There is no right or wrong way to draw your pig. This is not a competition or art contest.

 If the pig is drawn towards the top of the paper you are perceived as a positive and optimistic person by others.  If the pig is drawn towards the middle of the page you are perceived as a realist.  If the pig is drawn towards the bottom of the page, you are perceived as a pessimistic person and have the tendency to behave negatively under pressure.

 If the pig is facing to the left, you believe in tradition, are friendly and remember dates and birthdays.  If the pig is facing forward (towards you) you are a direct person; neither fear nor avoid discussion and enjoy “stirring the pot” to promote change.  If the pig is facing to the right you are innovative, creative and active; you have a poor memory of dates and birthdays.

 If the pig is drawn with many details you see yourself as analytical and cautious. Others must work hard to earn your trust and to keep it.  If the pig is drawn with few details you are a risk taker; wear your emotions on your sleeve and care little for the details in life.

 If the pig is drawn with (four) 4 legs showing you are secure, stick to your beliefs and have been told at least once in your life that you are stubborn.  If the pig is drawn with less than 4 legs showing you are living through a period of major change in your life

 The larger the pigs ears you have drawn, the better listener you are.

 And last but not least…the longer the pig’s tail that you have drawn (including loops) the more satisfied you are with the quality of your personal relationships.

 How many of you found this personality profile to be somewhat accurate?  What can we learn about each other from this exercise?  How can this exercise help you work more productively with others?

If you can’t stand the Heat, Get Out of the kitchen! “What comes out of you when you are squeezed is what is inside of you” Wayne Dyer

It is important to recognize indictors of high stress Dramatic changes in behavior and attitude. Absenteeism and Tardiness A negative and QUACKING attitude towards work and colleagues A confrontational manner in dealing with issues A defensive temperament A limited interest in getting involved in any activity A noted lack or organization and preparation A continued physical appearance of tiredness, depression and unhappiness

Awareness and definition make up 80% of dealing successfully with stress. Dale Carnegie once said “ If you are not automatically engaged in BECOMING the person you want to be, you are automatically engaged in becoming the person you don’t want to be.”

Outstanding Professional... Realize that they are responsible for their own stress Realize when their plate is too full Organize their time and priorities Live in the present rather than focusing on past problems, mistakes, and/or grudges Focus on solutions rather than grovel in problems Look closely in the mirror first before judging others Look for the greatness and islands of competence in others Take risks freely and frequently travel outside of their comfort zone Take care of themselves Live by a list of nevers Recognize the importance of creating a positive success-focused environment Truly love their life and profession Are H.A.P.P.Y Recognize stress and have a solid personal belief system

Stress Busters 1.Write a memo to yourself congratulating “You” on being such a great professional 2.Make a list of things to do that you have already done 3.Sit down and laugh hysterically at nothing 4.Send yourself flowers at work and write “from a secret admirer” on the card. 5.Dream about what you will do on summer break 6.Page yourself over the intercom and don’t disguise your voice 7.While sitting at your desk soak your hand in Palmolive 8.Practice making fax and modem noises 9.Smile at least once every hour. Don’t feel like smiling? Fake it until you make it 10.Finish all your sentences with the words “in accordance with prophesy” 11.X 12.X 13.X 14.X 15.X

Excellence can be attained if You… … CARE more than others think is wise. … RISK more than others think is safe. … DREAM more than others think is practical. … EXPEXT more than others think is possible. Unknown Author

Be Kind Kindness is the one passport that is time-honored without inquiry. Kindness is the fuel of victory. When you give kindness you receive kindness. Make time for people.

Have a Compelling Mission and Vision Everyone must have a purpose. Take time to identify and solidify a mission- personal and professional. Then predict the future by creating it.

Validate Importance and Value Treat others as if they are the most important people in your life at that moment. People want to feel appreciated, validated, and valued. Simple positive gestures can make a great difference in another person’s day.

Never stop dreaming, imagining and soaring with the eagles. Without dreamers, imagination, and E.A.G.L.E.S. we would not be where we are in this country today. It has been said that everyday we meet future inventors, scientists, and Nobel Prize winners. Unfortunately, we don’t know specifically who they are so we must treat everyone as a productive contributor to tomorrow’s society.

Set Goals Goals are dreams with deadlines. Whether you want to spend an excessive amount of time or a short period, they are the road maps to success. Take time to design and chart your future.

Unleash Talents Everyone has gold within. Look for that gold and find the gifts of people that cam assist in your mission.

Treat others as they want to be treated. Find out about others “stress buttons” and inquire about their needs. Everyone is different and the most adjusted among us respect others’ styles.

Remember the “F” words of success. Flexibility Freedom Focus Fairness Foresightfulness Family Feedback Forward-Thinking Future-Oriented Fun Food (literally and figuratively)

Crea te and Try New R.E.C.I.P.E.S. Do whatever it takes to feel comfortable, be successful, and connect with people. Never stop risking and trying. Review the menu and choose what fits your style.
