3 Relevant provisions of the UNFCCC Article 4.5: “The developed countries and other developed countries in Annex II shall take all practicable steps to promote, facilitate and finance, as appropriate, the transfer of or access to environmentally sound technologies and know how to other Parties, particularly developing country Parties, to enable them to implement the provisions of the Convention.”…...

4 Relevant provisions of the UNFCCC Article 4.7: “The extent to which developing country Parties will effectively implement their commitments under the Convention will depend on the effective implementation by developed country Parties of their commitments related to financial resources and transfer of technology…….”

9 Beyond Marrakech: Emerging Tasks: Other Issues Technology Needs Assessments -To organize an expert meeting to identify methodologies Expert Group on Technology Transfer -To organize a preparatory meeting to develop a work programme

10 Beyond Marrakech: Technology Information At SBSTA 15, the secretariat is requested: –To develop a new search engine on the Internet that will allow for quick access to existing inventories of ESTs; –To identify gaps in existing EST inventories, and update and develop inventories, as needed;

11 Beyond Marrakech: Technology Information To organize an expert workshop and to provide a report on options and recommendations to the SBSTA 16

12 Goals of the expert workshop To generate information and ideas specific to the needs and concerns of countries To advance understanding and narrow differences on key issues related to the technology information activities under the UNFCCC

13 Goals of the expert workshop To review existing approaches and identify opportunities to build on those and needs for new activities To review the users feedback to the secretariat technology information system and to further define users needs, criteria for quality control, technical specifications and the roles of Parties

14 Next Steps To provide a report on options and recommendations to SBSTA 16 To organize a side event at SBSTA 16 to present the outcome of the workshop To accelerate our work and to consult with relevant IGOs for their possible support.
