Objectives of the Study conducted by several ANSP T. Kleinmann DFS

Objectives 1.To validate the size of the sensitive and critical areas to be applied in order to cope with the introduction of the A380 at various European airports. 2.To validate simulation models (raw data and filtered data) that could be used in the future to assess local situations to define the appropriate sensitive and critical areas.

Objective 1 “Validation of the size of the sensitive and critical area” Assess the adequacy of the size of the current sensitive and critical area, which are based upon old simulations and field measurements with B747 in the early 70’s. Activity: Identify the various situations in terms of reflection affecting ILS operations (operationally representative and electro-magnetic critical) and perform field measurements (flight and ground checks).

Objective 2 “Validation of simulation models” Ensure that the modelling tool could be used in the future to assess specific local situations with a very high level of confidence. Activity: Compare the measurement in the field with the modelling results and verify that the correlation of the results was correct.
