Chip Seals On The Oregon Coast  Weather usually unpredictable!  High Temps average in the upper 60s.  Oiling windows can be very short with rain showers, heavy fog, and cold roads till mid day.  Scheduling oil deliveries, and crews difficult.

Know when to hold ‘em  Clatsop County's methods to maintaining the road structure.  ¼ 10 chip seal, and fog seal.  6 year cycle time of road resurfacing.  Looking at fog sealing to extend cycle times.  No major base failure

Know when to fold ‘em  Clatsop County secured stable funding in 1989 with road district 1 tax.  A lot of roads were built with minimal to no base rock.  Heavy traffic, Resource roads, roads not built to handle current traffic loads.  Are we applying chip seals to roads with base, or drainage failures, beyond repair.

Road Reclaiming Pulverization uses 100 % of existing materials. Allows us to correct problems, and increases the load-bearing strength of the base. ATB or CTB the existing base. Allows for reshaping of the road surface.

Fog Seal CSS-1H Dilute mixed at a ratio, giving us a little faster cure time than a 50/50 mix. Timing this process with warm temperatures and direct sun light is key to fast dry times. Times vary from 15 to 30 minutes on a hot day to 45 to 90 minutes on cooler shady areas.

Key Factors To Success  Consistent high quality oil products.  A good quality rock source, and getting the rock in the vicinities of the work areas.  The right equipment for the job.  Team work, and quality control, from road preparations to the finished product.
