Agenda Getting Started (10 min) Conjunction Junction, What’s Your Function, pt 2 (30 min) Quiz (20 min) Bag ‘O Vocab (30 min)

1 2 3 Input (gallons) x Output (dollars) y A function is just a relationship between 2 things, where one depends on the other Domain – All possible x values For a relationship to be a function, each input (x-value) can only have one output (y-value) Range – All possible y values 4 To be a function, a relationship must pass the vertical line test

Function Notation: Introduction 1 y = 3x + 2 Often, we use something called function notation in place of the y in equations. It is used to save time and make things simpler. Find the value of y when x = 5 f(x) = 3x + 2 Find f(5)

Function Notation: Practice 2 f(x) = 2x+8 g(x) = 8x – 6 f(x) = 6x + 7x Find f(3) Find f(-5) Find g(10) f(x) = 2x+8 g(x) = 3x Find f(g(5)) CHALLENGE 1 2 3

Function Notation Graphing: Examples 3 y = 3x + 2f(x) = 3x + 2 Graph the following:

Function Notation Graphing: Practice 4 f(x) = 2x – 4 Graph the following: 12 34

Agenda Getting Started (10 min) Conjunction Junction, What’s Your Function, pt 2 (30 min) Quiz (20 min) Bag ‘O Vocab (30 min)

Bag O’ Vocab: Procedure In just a minute, you will get into groups of 6 You will each receive a vocabulary list for the vocab section of your binder, along with 4 yellow sheets that need to be cut Round 1 – First team gets 1 minute, going back and forth, to describe / guess as many words as they can No rhymes with, no starts with, no writing Round 2 – You must show what the word is on a whiteboard, without talking. There can be no English words written  everything on the board must be math! Round 3 – You only use TWO WORDS. You can also act it out.
