Purpose of the PD Plan To encourage and support continued professional growth with resulting applications in the classroom.

PBTE Indicators Related to Professional Development V. Professionalism B. The teacher seeks professional development and applies knowledge gained. The teacher participates in course-work, workshops, conferences, and other activities appropriate to professional growth, which are consistent with personal growth and district identified needs. The teacher will work cooperatively to develop and implement a professional development plan. The teacher uses self-assessment and evaluation feedback to improve performance. The teacher builds professional relationships with colleagues that foster increased student learning. The teacher explores and applies knowledge and information about effective educational methods.

Track I. a. Professional Development Expectations: Inexperienced Hires New Teacher Institute 2 Year Mentor Program District & Building Professional Development (PD Day, PLCs, etc.) Technology Training Experienced Hires District & Building Orientations BOTH Develop an individual professional development plan based on interest and needs. (The above activities may be used as strategies to achieve your individual goal.)

Track I. b. PD Plan Expectations: Participate in PLCs Participate in District & Building Professional Development Develop an individual professional development plan based on interest and needs that may include one or more of the following --Peer Coaching Team --Support through the Staff Development Center --Working with a tenured teacher --Serve as a Mentor --Serve as a PLC Facilitator --Other Individualized/Collaborative Professional Activity

Track II PD Plan REQUIREMENTS: Select from the following options: Mentor Teacher which includes Mentor Training 2 years work with new teacher and associate how this experience has affected the teacher’s own practice Individualized/Collaborative Professional Activity around any of these Instruction Curriculum Assessment Program Development Technology Other Has a relationship with specific PBTE indicators and school improvement goals PLC Facilitator which includes Facilitator Training Serve as PLC Facilitator and associate how this experience has affected the teacher’s own practice MAY BE A MULTI-YEAR DESIGN MAY INVOLVE COLLABORATION WITH COLLEAGUES MAY REVISE OR CHANGE THE PLAN WITH THE AGREEMENT OF THE ADMINISTRATOR AT ANY TIME

Documentation I.a. & I.b. As identified in the PDP– options include certificates, logs, agendas reflections, summaries, action research data, parent communications, student work, copies of documents, forms, portfolio ( lesson plans, assessments, pictures, videos), grade reports, etc. that demonstrates professional growth in an identified area. II. Mentor Option: Certificate agenda, sign Log of times & dates of observations & conferences Reflection paper of the experience and its effect on teacher practices. Individualized/ Collaborative Professional Activity Option: As identified in the PDP– options include reflections, summaries, logs, certificates, action research data, parent communications, student work, copies of documents, forms, etc. that demonstrates professional growth in an identified area. PLC Facilitator Option: Certificate, agenda, sign-in Question: require certificates for participation in mentor & PLC facilitator training?

Administrator Involvement Develop the PD Plan for their track prior to Oct. 1. Turn the PD Plan in to their administrator by Oct. 1 yearly. Yearly conference with the principal about progress on the PD Plan at a time to be determined.

Individual Professional Development Plan Sample Ideas When writing your goal for professional development consider the following: Does it lead to student achievement? Can you provide evidence of attainment? Does it correlate to the Performance Based Teachers’ Evaluation?

YOU ONLY NEED ONE GOAL Examples of Individual Professional Development Goals: During the __________________ school year I will… Develop and implement teaching techniques and strategies that address a variety of learning modalities (visual, auditory, tactile, etc.). Provide for individual differences among students by developing and implementing remediation activities. Provide for individual differences among students by developing and implementing meaningful enrichment activities. Develop and implement instructional strategies that encourage self-esteem and help to motivate students. Develop (mathematics) activities to encourage creative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Use a variety of assessment techniques to evaluate student progress. Implement a behavior management program that promotes self-discipline and maintains appropriate student behaviors. Utilize technology as a tool to enhance student learning and motivation. Correlate computer lab activities to classroom instruction.

Integrate technology into the (science) curriculum. Incorporate cooperative learning strategies in my (social studies) classes. Develop performance assessment tasks to use in evaluating student progress in (language arts). Develop a program to communicate with parents on a regular basis. Collaborate with classroom teachers to establish an alternate discipline plan to improve students’ behaviors in the regular classroom. Collaborate with classroom teachers on a regular basis to implement instructional modifications for students with special needs. Implement a peer mediation program to assist students in developing problem solving skills. Improve my understanding of the Accelerated Reader Program and use it as one component of an integrated reading program. Establish an effective and consistent grading system that can be easily communicated to students and parents. Develop a unit of instruction that integrates learning objectives from (social studies and language arts). Develop performance-based assessment activities to prepare students for the Missouri Assessment Program.
