Surface Area of Cylinders

The lateral surface of a cylinder is the curved surface that connects the two bases. The axis of a cylinder connects the center of the bases. The altitude of a right cylinder is the same length as the axis.

Example 1 Find the surface area of the right cylinder. Leave your answers in terms of pi. r = 2cm, h = 5cm

Example 2 Find the surface area of the right cylinder. Leave your answers in terms of . 300 in 3 in

Example 3 Find the surface area of the right cylinder. Round your answer to the nearest 2 decimal places r = 5.2 ft, h = 6.7 ft

Example 4 Work backwards to solve for the unknown information. In a cylinder, the SA = 4 and r = 0.5. What is the height of the cylinder?

Example 5 Work backwards to solve for the unknown information. In a cylinder, the SA = 98” and h = 14”. What is the radius of the cylinder?

Example 6 Work backwards to solve for the unknown information. In a cylinder, the SA = 86 and r = 1.6. What is the height of the cylinder?
