Verrazano was sent by France
Around 1485 Giovanni Da Verrazano was born in Italy.
Later on in 1523 Francis, the king of France, asked Verrazano to help him find a short route to India.
One year later Verrazano sailed toward the new world on his ship, The Dauphine. On board were 50 men and food for 8 months. 7 weeks after leaving Europe they saw land. It is believed they were somewhere off the coast of what is now North Carolina. He said,“We spied new land, never seen before, modern or ancient.”
In 1524 Giovanni Da Verrazano sailed up the coast of North America.
After sailing New England’s coast and Cape Cod Verrazano turned toward home. His ship arrived at Dieppe, France in July of 1524.
Verrazano never found a route to Asia but, he did help discover New York Sadly Verrazano died in It is believed that he was captured and killed
