MULTI-CULTURAL DOLL Mixed Media

Papier Mâché French for “chewed paper” Composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp. Paste: Glue/water, starch, flour/water, wallpaper paste Material: newspaper, paper towels, toilet paper, cotton, etc…

Multiculturalism Relates to communities containing multiple cultures. Due to the arrival of immigrants to a community. Top multi-cultural country: United States with more than 45 million immigrants. Russia #2 and Germany #3. Belgium has least: Around 1 million. Niue is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, off New Zealand with only 100 immigrants.

Dolls A model of a human being, often used as a toy for children. Dolls being used as toys was documented in Greece around 100AD. Used in magic and religious rituals throughout the world. The earliest documented dolls go back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome. Dolls made of plastic and porcelain (bisque) started in Germany around the 15th century. Most famous doll in the world: The Barbie doll was invented in 1959 by Ruth Handler (co-founder of Mattel). Ken came two years later.
