Saved by grace through faith…
Presentation transcript:

James 2:14... What use is it, my brethren, if a man says he has faith, but he has no works? Can that faith save him? James 2:20... But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? James 2:24... You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone. Galatians 2:16... by works of the law no one will be justified.

Ephesians 2: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, that no one should boast. Romans 4:5... But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness, Titus 3:5... Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,

Romans 3:28... Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the works of the law. Romans 5:1... Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Galatians 5:4... You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Galatians 3:11... Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident...

THERE IS NO CONTRADICTION. We are justified before man by our works. We are justified before God by our faith.

that God raised Him from the dead Romans 10: that (1) if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and (2) believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; 10 for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:11... For the Scripture says [Isa.26:16], "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame [be disappointed, disturbed, disgraced ]." [ KJV be ashamed]

Some claim confession is the inevitable result of salvation but that is not what vs.10 says. In fact, it says just the opposite, that salv./deliverance is the inevitable result of confession, while [imputed] +R is the result of faith in Christ. Acknowledging Jesus is Lord is linked to deliverance; when one called on the Lord for help, it was nothing less than confess- in g with the mouth that Jesus is Lord.

Et. Salvation Phy. Deliverance Et. Salvation Phy. Deliverance Only Believe and Believe Confess by Calling on the Lord for Deliverance

1 Corinthians 1:2... to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours... Romans 10:13... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Only believers can call on the Lord and by so doing, they confess Him as Lord.

It is the privilege of ever believer to invoke the aid and assistance of Jesus Christ. They will never be disappointed. Romans 10:12... For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; The riches are the wonderful blessings of personal deliverance bestowed on believers who call on the Lord in time of need.

Many believers know they are eternally saved, but few know an experiential realization of His power and presence. They act as if they don’t believe God raised Him from the dead (vs. 9) We have a Lord that is over all and has given us His promise of deliverance in writing, and yet few believers call on Him for aid or assistance. They miss out on the thrill of having our loving Lord manifest Himself in their lives and of being able to recognize that fact.

Galatians 5:4...You have been severed from Christ; you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Who is this written to? Gal. 1:2 Calls them brethren 9 times What is the context? a. Freedom from legalism & the M. L. b. Christ being of no benefit Gal. 5:2 What does “has been severed from Christ” mean?

NASV NASV You have been severed from Christ, KJV KJV Christ is become of no effect unto you, NKJV NKJV You have become estranged from Christ, NIV NIV You... have been alienated from Christ,

KATARGEO   v. api KATA = down, down from + ARGEO = to be inactive, to do nothing, to be idle, to be useless, to be ineffective, to be inoperative. What does “falling from grace” mean? EKPIPTO  v. aai EK = away from + PIPTO = to fall, to drift, Used for a flower that falls or fades (James 1:11) and a boat that drifts off course (Acts 27:26, 29)

NOT One cannot “be severed” from Christ or “fall from grace” unless he was first connected to Christ and standing in grace. This is NOT referring to loss of eternal salvation! There’s no mention of loss of heaven or of hell. The danger was being severed from the sanctifying effects of a relationship with Christ, not from a saving relationship.

These are carnal believers who are not experiencing any grace benefits because they have fallen back into legalism. Two different ways of living the Christian life are being contrasted, not two differing eternal states. In Galatians, Paul contrasts grace and law. To fall from grace is to fall into a legalistic law-way of life, not into eternal damnation.

Gal 5:5... For we, through the Spirit, wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. What is the “hope of righteousness”? This righteousness is to be waited for and comes through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. It is not referring to imputed +R. Waiting is an expression of the confidence we have in believing the H.S. will produce righteousness (fruit of the spirit) through us as we reach spiritual maturity. Isa. 40:31

NET For through the [Holy] Spirit, by faith, we [believers] wait expectantly for the hope [confidence] of righteousness [the life of a mature believer which includes the fruit of the Spirit Gal. 5:22-23].
