PAGE AND DOCUMENT SETUP Open a new blank document Click File Page Setup This is where you will set margins Landscape or Portrait Click Insert Click Date and Time

A STUDY OF THE AUTOCORRECT TOOL Click Tools Click AutoCorrect Options Key: Florence Public Elementary and High School  Select the text you just typed  Select Tools  Auto Correct Options  Observe the company name is already entered in the With text box. Key: fps in the Replace: text box  Click Add – Click Ok Return and Key: fps and Click the SPACEBAR

INSERTING TEXT WITH THE AUTOTEXT TOOL Click Insert Point to AutoText Point to Mailing Instructions  Click CERTIFIED MAIL  Observe that the text is inserted in the document  EXPLORE the standard AutoText Entries by inserting an Auto Text entry from each category and pressing ENTER key after each insertion

APPLYING SPECIAL CHARACTER EFFECTS KEY: 1Florence Highlight the number 1 Click Format Click Font – Font Tab if necessary Click Superscript – click ok Deselect the 1 and observe KEY: 2Florence Highlight the number 2 This time follow the above directions – but click Subscript Deselect the 2 and observe These are just a few examples of things you can do!

APPLYING CHARACTER SPACING AND ANIMATION EFFECTS SELECT A NEW DOCUMENT KEY: YOUR NAME HIGHLIGHT YOUR NAME  Open the Font Dialog box  Click the Character Spacing Tab  Key 120 in the Scale: text box  Press the ENTER key VERIFY YOUR NAME IS STILL HIGHLIGHTED  Open the Font Dialog box  Click Text Effects Tab  Click on Marching Red Ants in the Animations: list box  Click Ok --- Deselect your name --- Observe

CHANGING THE CASE OF TEXT AND SPECIAL CHARACTERS PRESS ENTER A COUPLE OF TIMES KEY: Home of the Flyers!!!! – and Highlight Click Format Click Change Case Click UPPERCASE – Observe KEY: McDonalds Click – Insert – Click – Symbol – Click Special Characters Double Click ( or click Insert) the Copyright (Em Dash) Close the Symbol dialog box and observe

CREATING AND USING NEWSPAPER COLUMNS Open September Newsletter Document in Mini Session Folder Select the text beginning at “Happy Birthday!” to the end of the document Click the Columns button – select 2 columns—OBSERVE Revise the Column Layouts Move the insertion point into the two columns Click – Format Click – Columns Click – Left in the Presets group – click ok – Observe Open the Columns dialog box Click TWO in the Presets group Click the Line between check box to insert a check mark Observe

INSERTING PICTURES IN COLUMNS Click the Drawing Button – Click Insert Clip Art Key: Birthday – the first picture that appears – drag to the left of the “Warm Happy….” paragraph in the first column. Click to select the picture object – Click the Text Wrapping button—Click Square– Drag the picture to a different location. Click the Text Wrapping button – Click Behind Text– Drag the picture in the document once again an observe.

BORDERS TO PARAGRAPHS AND SHADING PAGE BORDERS Click on Format – borders and shadings Click on the tab – Page Borders Under Art – select a border Click on Option – and under – Measure from text – select – TEXT – with doing this – your border will not be cut off at the bottom when you print.

SHADING WORDS OR PARAGRAPHS Highlight text on your word document Click on Format --Borders and Shadings Click the tab – Shading Select Apply To:  Select Text for words  Select Paragraph for a group of sentences  The program shades what you have highlighted Select a Color Observe

ADDING CLIP ART TO YOUR TEXT Complete your text – for today let us use the text we been working on. Click on Insert—Picture—Clip Art Type: School Insert the books and apple into your project. Click on Format – Picture Click on the Layout – Behind Text Click on Format – Picture – Once Again Under – Image Control – Color – Select Washout  Contrast and Brightness of your clip art can be adjusted
