In your notebook or on a fresh sheet of paper: Freewrite about a text that you have read and enjoyed that has shaped you and your goals as a writer. Freewrite=exploring on paper, just getting ideas down About 5 minutes—try and write the whole time, generating details and ideas.

Pair with someone sitting near you and share your freewrite. Look for commonalities and differences Come up with 2 discussion highlights to share with the class

Hand out reading log assignment.

Work alone or with a partner to create a reading log for “Exit” Be sure to create one of each type of entry.

Exchange logs with another person/pair. Check to see that they have made an appropriate entry for each type. Offer feedback as needed.

Read around of favorite log entries.
