Early Life u Born in Samos, Greece u Born circa 582 B.C. u Was taught about early lonian philosophers Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes. u Was drawn away because of his disgust for tyranny of Polycrates.

Pythagoreanism u Pythagoras founded his own cult u The people were called Pythagoreans u It was based on religious, political, and philosophical beliefs. u They believed in reincarnation: Pythagoras thought himself to have been a Trojan warrior in a past life u The people attributed to his discoveries

Discoveries u Discovered the existence of irrational numbers. u The Pythagorean Theorem (a² + b² = c²) u He was the first to distinguish between prime and composite. u Discovered ideas in music and astronomy. u d² = h² + a² + b²
