Be Respectful in the Hall Use a whisper voice!

When should we use a whisper voice in the hallway? Before school while waiting for school to begin. During school hours. After school as we are leaving the building.

How to be respectful using a whisper voice Stand close to your friend or friends as you are talking to them. Make sure that the person you are speaking to is close enough to hear you without talking in a full voice. Be sure that only you and the people you are talking to can hear the conversation.

Why should we use a whisper voice in the hallway? Before school: Some people are trying to get things done in their classrooms. When there are a lot of students in the hallway before school, the noise level can get too high.

During School: Some classes have their doors open and are trying to learn. Some classes may be taking a test and need it to be quiet.

After School: Some students may be getting extra help from their teacher. Some students may be finishing up an assignment before they leave. Some teachers may be trying to talk to a student before he/she leaves.

Example Sally and Sue are standing in the hallway before school. Their friend Sandy is coming up the hall. Sally and Sue wait quietly for Sandy to approach. Then the girls stand in a group and talk quietly to each other while waiting for Mrs. Bonnel, the morning supervisor, to arrive.

Non-example Billy and Joe are waiting in the hallway before school. Their friend Fred is coming up the hallway. Billy and Joe yell to their friend Fred, “Hi, Fred!” Fred yells back, “I will be right there!” Discussion: Why is this not being respectful in the hallway?

Example Chuck is waiting for his friends after school. He waits quietly for his friends to meet him. Discussion: Why is this the respectful thing to do?

Please be respectful in the hallway by using a whisper voice if you need to speak to someone. Thank You!
