Presentation transcript:

Descriptive Writing - Smells The purpose of descriptive writing is to create a picture for your reader; the five senses are used as a tool. This group of English students is sharpening their observation skills and exercising the use of adjectives in their vocabulary as they prepare to write a descriptive essay. Can you guess the smells they are describing?

*It’s a flowery, alcoholic smell and it’s always a wonderful fresh scent that lingers even after you wash your hands. It always makes me smile, and here and there I tend to cry a little because it reminds me of my GG after her showers in the spring time. I don’t usually use it unless I really have to because the memories of GG sometimes make me sad. By: Samantha Grant

*Lots of people like the smell of these. They can smell spicy, strong, fresh, sweet, sour, and bitter. I do not like them; they make my nose stuffy and make me sneeze. By: Nick Kitsios

* The smell was good and made me want to drink a cup of it. The smell was delicious. It was strong and sweet. By: Mariah Sheehan

*It made my mouth water really badly. I wanted to eat it while I was blindfolded. The smell was good and the smell was also sweet and bitter. By: Alex Vaillancourt
