© FLIR Systems All Rights Reserved. Welcome! Thermal Imaging & Thermography Utility Applications – Reliability is Key New Technologies – Optical Gas imaging Building Diagnostics – Energy Analysis Q&A Today we will learn about:

© FLIR Systems All Rights Reserved. What is Infrared? LWLW MW SWSW 0.9 to 1.7µm 1.0 to 5.0µm 8.0 to 13.0µm

© FLIR Systems All Rights Reserved. –Significantly reduce unscheduled power outages –Detects problems quickly, without interrupting service –Assess priorities for corrective action –Minimize preventive maintenance and troubleshooting time –Improving Equipment Reliability & Life –Check for defective equipment while still under manufacturer warranty. Why Infrared for Utilities? Reliability is Key - The Benefits of a Proactive IR Program:

© FLIR Systems All Rights Reserved. Important Notes –Infrared inspection requires a sufficient difference in temperature from inside to outside (ΔT of 10°C) for a sufficiently long period of time, to produce discernible differences between areas with studs and areas that may contain insulation. –Wet materials retain heat and change slower than dry areas of the same type building material. –Knowledge of building construction is necessary to properly diagnose the problem. Use IR thermography in conjunction with: –R-Value calculator and energy savings estimator –Dew point and wet spot location –Blower door testing –Duct leak testing ©2008 Infrared Training Center.
