To be eSafe requires more than having sound policies and procedures in place. It requires having a culture of vigilance and openness where all staff, learners and other stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities and act accordingly when using technology within an educational or social context. To be eSafe all stakeholders should be adequately trained making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and what to do if things good wrong! Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 4

eSafety provision includes all stakeholders and is embedded within all curriculum areas. Training is systematically planned and learners are helped to assess the risks of accessing online resources. Training programmes are systematically reviewed and updated. Evaluations are regularly carried out and feedback is provided. A core team for eSafety is used to establish clear policies and procedures. The team should consist of a wide cross section of staff and stakeholders. e-Safety is outstanding where the institution manages systems rather than locking them down. All stakeholders are aware of eSafety policies and procedures and the consequences of their actions. Ofsted –Limiting grade Training  All stakeholders have been trained; support staff, governors, parents, teachers and members of our local community where learners attend e.g. CLCs, Libraries, youth centres.  Learners are e-safe savvy and confident to mentor beginners –They know what the risks are and now to avoid them –They know what to do if things go wrong. Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 6

Ofsted –Limiting grade Assessment & Standards  Learners are outstanding and mature in their use of technology including new and emerging technologies.  They all know and understand the policies and procedures. Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 7

Ofsted –Limiting grade The Curriculum  All learners know how to act and pro-act responsibly.  Monitoring the curriculum and its interaction with technology, and any incidents that arise and actions taken toward a positive outcome. –Clear and consistent policies and reporting procedures are implemented, understood and reinforced. Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 8

Ofsted –Limiting grade Leadership & Management  Where all Leadership & Management actions taken are based on rigorous self assessment which includes e-safety across everything we do. Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 9

Time to get involved! Please spend 5 minutes to discuss the questions below with the person next to you.  What do Ofsted want to see?  What can we do to promote awareness of eSafety issues and what can we do to reduce risk? Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 10

What do Ofsted want to see?  Strong leadership  Clearly defined responsibilities and ethos  Staff Training – Indicators and procedures  Checks and policies in place across provision  Robust risk assessment and rationale  Clearly visible reporting processes  Working with safeguarding boards Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 11

What can we do? Provide all stakeholders with adequate training. –Make them aware of the risks and how to avoid them. Safe practice, configuring settings? –Make them aware of support and reporting procedures available. –Make them aware of all relevant policies and procedures. –Make them aware of their duty of care to others and the relevant legislation: Data Protection 1998 Copyright Act 1998 Protection from Harassment Act 1997 Sex Discrimination Act 1975 Race discrimination act 1976 Defamation Act (1996) Computer Misuse Act (1990) Go to View > Header & Footer to edit August 25, 2014 | slide 12

What can we do? Form a cross institutional working group –Risk assessment Identify risk and its nature Identify the impact, likelihood of each risk. Classify each risk (colour code, numerical ranking) Identify who has a responsibility for that risk. Log a review date against each risk. Specify the risk reduction processes for each risk. –Policies and Procedures –All policies should reviewed on a regular bases and reflect changes in the innovative use of technology.
