The Enterprise Scholarship Scheme  Three months additional stipend for a current research student  The opportunity to investigate commercial potential of research  Projects can be based on a students current project  Collaborative projects can also be investigated

Expectations  Three months is not a long time!  Scholarships unlikely to support lab work  Support for market research & further funding applications will be provided  Applicants must complete agreed milestones which may include a short report  Training will not be provided applicants should have gained knowledge and experience through the enterprise options available

Timescale  Funding will be awarded on thesis submission  Staged funding will apply on completion of milestones  Applications can be made at any time but more notice is better  Notification will be given as quickly as possible

Biotechnology & Environment YES  Biotechnology & Environment YES (Young Entrepreneurs Schemes) are innovative competition developed to raise awareness of the commercialisation of bioscience and environment researchers, students and staff.  For the last three years Newcastle has hosted a regional heat of Biotech YES, with Newcastle teams progressing to the national finals. In 2009 two Newcastle teams were 1 st and 2 nd in the Environment YES competition.

Funding  Currently the Enterprise Scholarship Scheme is being supported by the EPSRC and the Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School  Limiting the scholarships to the areas of Engineering, Physical, Medical, Health and Life Sciences  We are hopeful that initial scholarships will be successful and further funding may become available

Alternative Funding Options  Applicants may find that other funding options are available and appropriate  Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)  BBSRC Enterprise Fellowships  Research Councils Follow on Fund

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships  KTPs are a partnership between a Company the University and a researcher  Projects last months on full salary with project support  Highly appropriate for anyone on a CASE studentships or with an industrial contact 
