CANADA DAY

Canada Day is celebrated on July 1st across the country. July 1st marks the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada - that's the technical explanation, but Canada Day also means fireworks and the year's biggest national party. The Canada Day holiday is akin to the U.S. July 4th celebration but on a more Canadian scale.

NATIONAL SYMBOLS

The MAPLE LEAF is the characteristic leaf of the maple tree, and is an important national symbol of Canada. The BEAVER has played an important role in the history of Canada since the first explorers arrived here and started the fur trade. The beaver was made an official emblem of Canada on 24 March, 1975.

SCHOOL

Education in Canada is compulsory for children from 6 years old to at least 16 years old in the majority of Canadian provinces. In some provinces compulsory schooling starts at age five and in others it finishes at age 18. Generally, the standard of education in Canada is high. The school day in elementary schools is usually from 8.30am to 3 or 3.30pm, with an hour for lunch. There are also usually two 15-minute breaks (recesses) to allow students to let off steam between classes (and to allow teachers to find the aspirin ). Lessons in public schools are held from Mondays to Fridays and there are no lessons on Saturdays or Sundays.

SPORT

ICE HOCKEY is Canada's official winter sport, and LACROSSE is Canada's official summer sport, they are often used as national symbols of unity and pride.

THE MOUNTIES

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), literally ‘Royal Gendarmerie Canada'; colloquially known as THE MOUNTIES, and internally as ‘The Force') is both a federal and a national police force of Canada, and one of the most recognized of its kind in the world. It is unique in the world as a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body.

NIAGARA FALLS

Categorized by these three names: American Falls (between Prospect Point and Luna Island) far left Bridal Veil Falls (between Luna Island and Goat Island) mid left Canadian Falls (between Goat Island and Table Rock) right Niagara Falls are 12,000 years old!!! Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada is known as the Honeymoon Capital of the world!!! Niagara Falls is one of the seven Wonders of the World!!! The Niagara region attracts more than 22 million visitors every year!!!

CN TOWER

CN Tower (Canada National Tower) is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Toronto. CN Tower is visited by 2 million people every year. The Glass floor was specially designed and you will have the most bizarre experience if you dare to step on it. The world will be literary at your feet! The glass is replaced every year and is very safe. Nobody has ever fallen down. It has been said that 14 hippos can sit on it and it will not break, so don’’t worry about it. View from CN Tower at night View of downtown Toronto from the CN Tower

CHRISTMAS

Christmas in Canada is celebrated in much the same way as it is in other Western countries. December 25th is the official holiday, with many people also taking time off on the afternoon of the 24th and Boxing Day on the 26th. Of course, Canada is a multicultural country, so many other holiday traditions aside from Christian ones are observed in December and throughout the year.

EASTER

Most everything is closed Easter Sunday; it's a popular day for attending church, getting together for a big family meal, and staging an Easter egg hunt. The children look for Easter eggs in the garden. Canadians give chocolate rabbits to each other.
