Of these so far only 60 bodies have been recovered. Very many other Salesian pupils died in the ruins of their own homes.

The awful process of recovering the bodies of the pupils and teachers at Enam slowly continues as the layers of each building are uncovered.

The school buildings are now in a dangerous state and pupils have been asked to keep clear.

The hostel for young boys has been totally destroyed making hundreds homeless.

Fortunately, the boys in this dormitory were still at school when it collapsed.

People chose to move into open spaces especially when the aftershocks went on for days

Where it is possible reception centres have been established at the Salesian houses, and the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians are doing all they can to welcome and help the people.

Some tents have begun to be available for the homeless and bereaved families

Here they can search for family and friends and begin to let the shock set in.

School yards and fields have become camp sites where Haitians can sit and begin to grieve over the loss of family and firends

Even the pavement can provide a safe place away from falling buildings

Lord, give strength and hope to those who are suffering in Haiti. We pray especially for the young people of Enam Salesian school in Port au Prince.
