About your Profile e-portfolio account …   The Profile system provides students with a personal, secure electronic portfolio, in which you can interact with web-forms to document your learning activities.   As it is a secure system, you require a login consisting of a username and password.   The login details are not the same as for your university. So remember to record these details somewhere secure.

Your username   Your username for Profile will be your address.   Make sure that the person at your university responsible for setting up your Profile account has your correct details.   If you are unsure who that person is, with details of your course.

Your password   Your password will be sent to your account once you have activated your Profile account.   The rest of this tutorial explains how to obtain a password and access your e-portfolio.   Please note that the password is in the form of two words separated by a hyphen (-). Make sure you include the hyphen when entering your account.   An example of a password is happy-ear

Activating your Profile account   When your Administrator enters your address in the Profile database, you will receive an automated giving you instructions how to activate your account and obtain a password.   Because the has been generated automatically, it may be labelled as [Spam] or look like spam but do not delete this .   Follow the instructions given in the . An example given in next slide.

New User   The you receive will look something like this. Follow the instructions.   Click on the link on the to go to the Profile website: student To: Sam Smith Dear Sam,

Profile login page   Type in your address and press enter on your keyboard.

Registering with Profile   The first time you enter your username (ie address), the following screen will appear.

Registering with Profile cont’d This is part of the password self-management system that allows you to generate a brand new password if you ever forget your password. poodles   Enter some ‘secret’ information (eg your mother’s maiden name or pet’s name) in the Hidden word field. My pet’s name   Give a visible reminder of the ‘hidden’ word; in this case your pet’s name.   Then, click my password

Password is ed to you.   When this is done, Profile will send your password to your address.   In this case the password is shiny-door.   Go back into your account and there will be another for you from Profile, containing your password.   The will look something like this.

Now you can log in …   Go back to and type in your username (ie ) and press returnwww.profile.ac.uk

Enter your password..   Enter your password; in this example, it is shiny-door (in reality the password will appear as **********)   When you press Enter, you will be taken to your e- portfolio. shiny-door
