What is Videoconferencing ? Using live video and audio, videoconferencing allows you to hold or participate in meetings, conferences or seminars without leaving university grounds. Almost all universities, major companies and research establishments both home and abroad now have these facilities which provide free communications over the internet. Available on all UoG campuses. Convenient, saving travelling time, expense, AND kinder to the environment !

Videoconferencing Videoconferencing can be held between participates nationally, internationally or inter campus without charge. It uses broadband and can link as many sites as you wish at any one time. For one-to-one conferencing we normally dial manually while if it’s a multi-site meeting we use JANet videoconferencing who provide the hub and quality control to link all the participates together. Videoconferencing is different to videophone, videomessenger or Skype type videocalls. These use mobile phones or pc’s and webcams primarily for one to one meetings while videoconferencing is purpose built designed for meetings and larger groups. At present the two systems are not compatible although ICT are proposing to provide facilities for webcam ‘Skpye type’ videocalls shortly. For more information on Multi-site or videoconferencing in general, contact Graham Bateman on 4991.

UoG Videoconferencing is available on four campuses PARK LC141E Contact Angela Fletcher (4273) or Graham Bateman (4991) i/p address Telephone in room FCH CeAL Building Contact Claire Hanson (4682) Barbara Rainbow (4683) i/p address Nearest telephone Claire Hanson London Campus Contact Nikki Herriot (8014 or ) or Chris Cove (8009) i/p address Nearest telephone (Nikki Herriot) Oxstalls Boardroom Contact Sarah Woodward (4624) or Abi Colbourne (5299 ) i/p address Telephone in room
