What does CfE mean for my child? Pre-school and Primary –Broad General Education 3-15 –early pre-school to P1 –first P2 to P4 –second P5 to P7 –third & fourth S1 to S3 –Modest curriculum changes –More emphasis on active engagement in learning –Literacy, numeracy and aspects of health & wellbeing responsibility of all –Fewer outcomes, broader levels

What does CfE mean for my child? –Learning more relevant and in context –Profiling of progress and achievement –‘Space’ to broaden and deepen learning balanced against progression –Assessment more 'valid' and 'reliable' and as part of learning –Better continuity pre-school to P1 and P7-S1 –Focus on transferable skills

Progress this year 2010/11 first full year of CfE nationally All schools using Es & Os to plan almost all learning Good progress with assessment and moderation (BCA) First reports in CfE format (DCS) Almost 40% of schools piloting CfE transferable skills Developing expertise in ‘active learning’ Education Service

Next steps All schools have three year plans for CfE (11/12 – 13/14) In 2011/12, focus on: –Planning and tracking learning (OTwL) –Assessment –Profiling learners and learning (notably P7) –Active learning (Co-op; MIE; FSIN) –Transferable skills –Literacy / Numeracy / HWB –Parental information and engagement Education Service
