International Student Experience a little bit about myself: Name: Han Nationality: Chinese University: University of Edinburgh Programmes: MSc by Research in Education PhD in Education

What I really enjoy: Pre-arrival Welcome Package (MSc by Research): Information about Visa application/Edinburgh/travel; University and department introduction; Programme introduction; Core course description/reading list; Induction Programme: Orientation session with programme director, staff and fellow students; Opportunity to communicate with previous students; Social programme and peer support (Pub quiz night, learning set groups, etc); Programme Arrangement/curriculum: Research-based curriculum with philosophy of educational research as a compulsory unit (MSc by Research) ; An international/comparative perspective; Fantastic supervision/mentoring experience; Amazing inter-disciplinary learning opportunities; PhD first-year and second-year progression report and feedback;

What I really enjoy: Opportunity to Teach Tutoring experience – learning through teaching Mentoring system University Student Support System: International Office – VISA application; One-off academic development support (academic writing, transferable skills/employability, etc); English language; Cultural experience: Use of inclusive language; Diverse ideologies; Autonomous/critical learning; Amazing historical heritage and cultural events Edinburgh/Edinburgh University has to offer;

What I would like it to be: Programme Arrangement (by comparison with…) Apprenticeship research training - requirement to work as a part of a research team; Learning about how ‘real’ research projects are co-ordinated and operated; Practicing data collection/analysis skills; Learning about academic journal publication process; Comprehensive Induction Programme (Informal) assessment and feedback (tutor and peer – MSc by Research) Engaging PhD students in School/Department Management Keep us posted Visa Application Experience Use of term – ‘low/high risk’?
