Raising Up Great Leaders Celebrate Recovery Discipleship & Lessons from the life of David

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." CR is a discipling tool

It enables you to engage people who are searching for an answer to their pain. The process is similar to Alpha which addresses the issue for those searching for an answer to the meaning of life. The answer to both is Jesus Christ.

CR is a discipling tool What is a disciple? A disciple is one who is learning and applying the principles of the teacher. A disciple is a disciplined follower of Christ’s teaching.

CR is a discipling tool What is a sponsor / accountability partner? A sponsor is a disciplined follower of Christ’s teaching. A sponsor is Jesus with flesh on discipling (teaching/modeling/leading) others to apply Gods word.

CR is a discipling tool What is a sponsor / accountability partner? A sponsor is a leader teaching potential leaders to disciple others.

CR is a discipling tool Jesus spent three years discipling His team. Our thinking tends to be once saved they are discipled. We need more than church attendance to learn how to follow.

CR is a discipling tool We need a close relationship with at least one other person to help us maintain a disciplined approach to applying the Word of God to every area of our lives. This is why Jesus said “teach them to observe everything”

CR is a leadership training tool Those who have been discipled will be disciplined and disciple others. Those who have demonstrated willingness to learn (encouragement and correction) are able to lead. An accountable/disciplined life attracts trust and people willing to be led.

Everyone can be a leader. a) A leader is one who has a large circle around them – (that they have attracted not been given) 1 Sam. 16:21-22 David came to Saul and entered his service. Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armor-bearers.

Everyone can be a leader. b) don’t be fooled by appearances 1 Sam. 17:42 He looked David over and saw that he was only a boy, ruddy and handsome, and he despised him.

Give Opportunities b) to lead meetings (start with small gatherings 1-4 where your sponsor/discipler watches and provides feedback) 1 Chr. 16:37 David left Asaph and his associates before the ark of the covenant of the LORD to minister there regularly, according to each day’s requirements.

Give Opportunities c) to speak into the lives of others 1 Sam. 22:2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader.

Moulding a Leader c) develop a love for the anointing 1 Sam. 26:9 But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed and be guiltless?

Moulding a Leader d) develop a heart sensitive to the Holy Spirit Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
