James 3 v Taming the tongue

James 3 v Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example.

James 3 v Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3 v All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.

James 3 v My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

James 3 v Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue

James 3 v All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue

James 3 v With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

James 3 v Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue

1. The one we praise is no less than our Lord and Father. 2. The one we curse is made in the likeness of that Lord and Father. 3. Therefore, to treat people with contempt is to treat God's own greatness with contempt.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Matthew 12: “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good?

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Matthew 12:33-37 For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue

Philippians 2 Imitating Christ’s Humility 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Philippians 2 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Philippians 2 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Philippians 2 by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Philippians 2 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

James 3 v 1 – 12 Taming the tongue Isaiah 50:4 4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.
