Tobias and the Angel work by Kingsmead Primary School 2010 Creative work by Nursery to Year 6 classes Also a collaborative piece completed by all 244 children in the school

Nursery

Reception

Year 1 Year 1 children talked a lot about the father of Tobias being blind and the remedy that was going to cure his blindness. We became very interested in how blind people read and use their ‘touch’ sense. We decided to take a section of the painting and use tactile resources to create the art piece, so blind people could feel the piece. We created our initials of our names to make the angel wings. The wings are made up of every Childs first name in our class.

Year 2 Year 2 children made 3D devices that are used for communicating in the 21 st century. What would Tobias and the Angel use today to send a message?

Year 2

A collaborative piece by Year 3 Modern version of Tyrell and the Angel walking through the Hackney Estate.

Collaborative Art piece Kingsmead Angels All staff and visual artists had an inset session together to discuss ideas for a collaborative piece that could be placed outdoors. Teachers discussed ideas with their class in circle time. The school council then had the final decision and worked with the visual artists on organising the resources and classes. They decided recycled materials and materials that were waterproof would be suitable for the piece to survive outdoors. Everyone in the school collected plastic bags, bottle tops, corks and straws etc. We also created a book of Angels, that every designed their own angel. Within the last two years, 2 children and 1 adult have sadly passed away in our school. This has really touched our school and our community, therefore we were inspired by the angel in the picture, to create a Kingsmead Angel to go in our memorial garden.
