Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ World Renew was there within 17 days, providing emergency NFIs (Phase I)

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ Working with local CRCP leadership, 6 municipalities on the 3 islands were identified

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ  Before project activities, staff posted beneficiary lists in communities (transparency)  Cell-phone number was included for community members to contact World Renew  Provided opportunity for them to ask questions or to report irregularities (Complaint mechanism).  Helped to finalize the list, ensuring that only one name was listed for each household

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ 8276 Households received: Stoves Cooking supplies – pots and dishes Sleeping mats Wash basins, large buckets, towels Solar flashlights Generators In Phase II (Dec-March 2014), World Renew provided more NFIs:

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ Trauma counseling is a critical component of this outreach Phase II: Stress debriefing seminars were held for 67 community leaders along with World Renew COs - They were then trained in psychological first aid to recognize signs of trauma and provide counseling

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ .. Phase III: Follow-up PSS training focused on identifying child victims of trauma and signs of trauma to look for. Three child stress debriefing sessions held.

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ  Phase II: Cash for Work (CfW) was included on this project because everyone’s livelihood was destroyed - “EMERGENCY EMPLOYMENT”  US$ 250,000 was programmed in CfW activities in order to boost the purchasing power of families  Community leadership was involved from the beginning to decide what community projects would be most helpful

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ Length of work varied from 5 to 10 to 12 days (as some had received CFW from another NGO).

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ  Many positive outcomes, including:  Towns were beautified  Repairs made to community buildings  15 homes of elderly people repaired  700 meters of roads repaired

Living Justice, Loving Mercy, Serving Christ  Many positive outcomes, including:  8.7 km of creeks, 6km drainage ditches, 17.5 km streets, 4.6 hectares cleared of debris  40 community gardens across 11.5 hectares  Debris cleared from market and part of airport areas  A town water line was extended to provide water to remote areas

 “The CFW project not only had immediate benefits, but it also restored and healed groups of friends, neighbors and families.  After the devastation caused by the typhoon, it was therapeutic for people to restore the village in which they lived and reclaim what was taken from them.  With their earnings, people bought nutritious foods for their families, purchased medicine, started small businesses, and purchased materials to rebuild damaged housing. ”
