The plan: Video clip of the day Reviewing Vertical Transformations Horizontal Transformations Finding transformations

Graphing y = sin(x):

Reflections: y = -sin(x)

What has happened?

Vertical Translations:

Key idea: –They shift the information up and down.

Vertical Stretches:

Key Idea: –They INCREASE or DECREASE the ‘amplitude’ of the wave. You can think of this as increase or decreasing the volume of music. The sound gets louder or softer but does not change frequency.

Horizontal Transformation: Horizontal Translation= HT Horizontal Stretch= HS

Horizontal Translation:

Key idea: –Think of this as to where you start on a Ferris wheel. The ride only begins once everyone is on and depending on when you got onto the ride will change where your placement is. –It is possible to start at the very top, in the middle on the bottom, or anywhere else in the rotation.

Horizontal Translation:

Horizontal Stretch:

Key idea: –Think of this as how squished or stretched out a spring is. When compressed it looks like the waves repeat themselves more often in the same period of time. –You can also think of this as frequency. The higher the frequency of someone’s voice, the more tightly packed the waves are. Lower frequency has waves repeat less often.

Horizontal Stretch:

Finding the transformations:

To do: Complete the introduction to transformations worksheet –Questions #9, 11, 22, 24, 26 & 28 Continue working Start Assignment #2 –Sheet due on Thursday
