Matching Grant #62260 Indianola Club #2251 and San Miguel, El Salvador Club working to provide: 400 slow-sand water filters for El Salvador

● We use potable water to wash our clothes, bathe, flush toilets and water our lawns. ● We need only to turn on the faucet and we have clean water. We Take Clean Water for Granted

● 50% of the world population lacks access to clean water. ● 80% of all illnesses in developing countries are the result of contaminated water. ● Three million people die each year as a result of drinking contaminated water. ● The majority of these deaths and illnesses occur in children. The World Reality:

The Solution A slow sand filter designed by Dr. David Manz, University of Calgary and tested at both MIT and Dartmouth Capable of removing 98 to 100% of contaminants such as parasites, worms and fecal matter: There are over 10,000 systems installed in various countries including Honduras and Haiti and now El Salvador

The Filter Made from concrete and is about the size of an office water cooler. Water is poured over a diffuser plate. Water filters through the sand and gravel Clean water is forced through a PVC pipe and into a sanitary bucket.

The Benefits Low cost per filter – $80 Reliability – no moving or replacement parts Maintenance – little to no on-going maintenance No power needed Simple to use – one hour of instruction per family Made from in-country materials Average life span of 15 to 20 years

Thank You A family who benefited.
