The Solution A slow sand filter designed by Dr. David Manz, University of Calgary and tested at both MIT and Dartmouth Capable of removing 98 to 100% of contaminants such as parasites, worms and fecal matter: There are over 10,000 systems installed in various countries including Honduras and Haiti and now El Salvador
The Filter Made from concrete and is about the size of an office water cooler. Water is poured over a diffuser plate. Water filters through the sand and gravel Clean water is forced through a PVC pipe and into a sanitary bucket.
