PWA CONNECT Debbie Terceros

PWA’s Mission Statement Mission Statement: Learning for all. Success for all. CONNECT Vision: To support each individual student – creating opportunities for success

Program highlights To develop methods for supporting student learning at Peace Wapiti Academy by providing different models of learning To give students opportunities for learning in line with the 21 st century To allow for differentiated learning according to students’ needs To offer alternative methods of learning for any student The program is teacher and student directed

Four Branches Extension Recovery Redirection Acceleration

Extension a student is enrolled in a regular class but is unable to meet the outcomes by the end of the semester This may include students ▫on a slower paced program ▫with high absence over the semester ▫unable to learn all the material Student is given the opportunity to extend the course into the next semester before writing the final exam

Recovery Student is capable of achieving the outcomes but has struggled with specific outcomes Student did not successfully meet some of the objectives but were successful in other parts of the course Student writes the final exam and then is given the opportunity to redo certain “units/exams”

Redirection Student did not master the outcomes and/or do not possess the work habits or skills necessary Student can be retained in the same course Student can be redirected to a lower “level” course

Acceleration Student wants to accelerate through a course so that they can register in a second course after completion Still under construction

PWA Connect Hybrid ▫CONNECT works on a hybrid model – it is not modules or an online course.  Students are assigned the work by teachers  Teachers set up regular meetings with students  Teachers mark the work  Teachers are available for help  Teachers are free to set up discussions, Elluminate sessions etc. with groups of students

Final Comments PWA CONNECT Is designed to provide individual support to students based on their unique needs. PWA Connect is driven by student and teacher requests.

End of Semester Recommendations Please fill out one form for any student that is in danger of failing a course you teach this semester or a module within a course. TEACHER: ___________________________________ STUDENT NAME: _________________________ COURSE: _____________________________ RECOMMENDATION: extension – postpone the final exam to allow the student time to finish the course recovery – write the final exam with the rest of the class, then redo parts of the course redirection –move “down” a level to continue in this subject retake - retake the same course SUMMARY OF RELEVANT DISCUSSIONS: Discussion with Student: Discussion with Parents: Discussion with AIM teacher: Discussion with Admin: FURTHER COMMENTS:
