TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS THE EVIL OF MODERN DAY SLAVERY

WHAT IS TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS? Trafficking in persons is about buying and selling human beings. Trafficking in persons denies people basic human rights to life, free movement, to be free of torture. Trafficking has elements of coercion, force and deception.

THE SCOPE OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS Human trafficking Is global. It would be safe to say that all countries are affected. We speak of countries of: –Origin –Transit –Destination Some countries could be classified as all three.

WHY ARE PEOPLE TRAFFICKED? Hundreds of thousands of women, children and men are forced into prostitution, domestic service, work on plantations, in sweat shops, begging and other forms of coercion. Other forms include - organs, adoption, forced marriage, mail order brides and the entertainment industry. People are trafficked for profit - it is about money! Globally it is about billions of $US.

IMAGES OF PEOPLE TRAFFICKING…

JESUS WENT TO THE POOR AND THE MARGINALISED. Many of the Parables tell about Jesus caring for the abused and disadvantaged….The Good Shepherd carried the one sheep; The Good Samaritan cared for the enemy who had been robbed and assaulted….. What are you asked to do following the model of Jesus in so many of the parables in the Gospels?

GO AND DO LIKEWISE.
