PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit Lord we cannot help but give thanks for the generosity you have shown to your people throughout the ages. From the beginning you have provided for your people, even giving bread and meat in the desert to physically sustain your people. We give thanks that you hear the cries of your people and you respond.

We acknowledge that we do not always understand what you are giving to us. When your generosity comes in unexpected forms, we often fail to recognise it. We experience your blessing on our lives, yet we covet this to ourselves, not letting the abundance overflow into the entire world that all may receive blessing. Help us to become a source of grace and generosity to others and to all creation, that your love and care may be shown in the entire world. Amen. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS In grace we are forgiven our blindness and selfishness as we benefit from God’s gracious abundance. We are a loved, blessed and forgiven people. Thanks be to God. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Creator God, The world is an awesome place of beauty and wonder yet we know that this is not the experience of everyone. We pray for those whose lives are destitute economically, mentally, physically and spiritually. Lord, you ask your disciples to help the blind to see. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

Show us how to express your love for these people, that they may be able to see what is being offered to them to help them live whole lives. May we be a blessing to them. We pray for your creation. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

May we give time to caring for it — whether it be planting something to bring forth food, picking up the rubbish which scars its beauty or writing letters to encourage good legislation for its protection. May we be generous with our time. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

We pray for those in business who profit from destructive land practices. We know it is hard to forego short-term profits in preference to long-term sustainable practices. May we be gracious in the way we impart information and influence these people so our world will have a better future. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

The riches of this world are for all. We give you thanks and praise as we play our role in caring for your creation. Amen. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

HYMN TIS 157 O Lord of every shining constellation Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

COMMISSIONING AND BENEDICTION You have been blessed abundantly in ways you may not even recognise. Go into your communities, and into this beautiful world we have been given, love lavishly, give generously, and experience God anew in all you do. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit

COMMISSIONING AND BENEDICTION And know that God goes with you, Christ Jesus holds your hand and the Spirit helps your heart dance in delight as you live out the blessing of your faith each moment. Amen. Sustainable September 2014 Uniting Church WA Social Justice Unit
