2012 jmo census PROJECT | introduction The 2012 JMO Census: A comprehensive one-off survey of Junior Medical Officers in NSW and the ACT, investigating the state of JMO welfare, education and training in our public hospitals. Design Refining the domains of inquiry and Census questions. Delivery Communication of Census to JMOs. Publication Release of Census data.

2 Design

2012 jmo census PROJECT | design Domain 1: Demographics To gain an accurate snapshot of the JMO population in 2012. Age, gender, nationality, etc. amongst JMOs.  This data will be compared with existing data sets for validation.

2012 jmo census PROJECT | design Domain 4: Supervision To investigate attitudes on the various aspects of JMO supervision. Will be of value to DPETs and JMO Managers to identify potential gaps in supervision of junior medical staff.

2012 jmo census PROJECT | design Domain 6: Hospital Systems Areas of Interest To assess how JMOs understand and interact with their hospital administratively. Data collected may cover the understanding of hospital policies, appropriate channels for either personal or industrial conflict resolution, or knowledge of key figures within hospitals.

3 Next Steps

2012 jmo census PROJECT | next steps Delivery 50-60 Questions, delivered online Pretesting by HETI JMO Forum representatives An expert in Qualitative Analysis to redraft final questions Communicated to all PGY-1 and PGY-2 doctors in NSW and ACT by end 2012 Publication Results of the Census will be reported on in late 2012. Published via a dedicated publicly accessible website. Future Directions We hope to produce this survey annually, and gain long-term perspective on the state of JMOs. Reduce survey fatigue by consolidating various alternative surveys targeting JMOs.
